Pico is a presentation companion for those in business and education who deliver presentations regularly.  It is a small, easy-to-use, portable projector that does not need a laptop.  It also has a camera that records every presentation it projects. And because the projector and camera are combined in Pico, it reduces the need to produce single-purpose devices that lack flexibility, lessening the impact on the environment.

Every camera requires batteries for power but it is not so in the case of Sony ODO digital camera. Check out this Battery Free Camera designed by Sony. This camera is powered by kinetic energy and is charged by giving its rounded head a twist. When its head is rolled, it provides power by transforming kinetic energy into electricity. This device is made up if biodegradable vegetable based plastics and is capable of taking decent pictures. Camera takes around 15 seconds to get charged for next picture. Sony has also offered one flowerpot which acts as the Sony ODO docking system.

Sony's showing off a whole range of new environmentally-friendly gear in Japan at the moment, all of which can be used without ever having to be plugged in for a recharge. One of the more interesting devices of the lot is the Spin N' Snap digital camera (pictured above), which you charge up simply by placing your fingers in the two holes (which also double as a viewfinder) and spinning it around a few times. Taking a slightly different but equally non-power-hungry route is the Crank N' Capture camera, which can also apparently capture video of some sort. Rounding out the line up are the Pull N' Play stereo headphones, the Push POWER Play device (apparently a viewer of some sort), which you charge by rolling it back and forth on a table, and the "Juice Box," which packs a fold out solar panel that can be used to charge your other devices. What's more, if we're reading the machine translation correctly, it appears that all the devices are made of re-used or recycled plastic. Unfortunately, there's no word on when or if any of them will actually be available, although you can check out a couple more pics courtesy of Impress after the break and plenty more at the link below.

Colani's concepts: the future of cameras?
In 1983, Canon commisioned outspoken designer Luigi Colani to envision the future of camera design. The chap who believed that "an egg represents the highest form of packaging since the dawn of time" drew on his "no straight lines in the universe" philosophy to create the 5 Systems. These designs included (top left to right) the Hy-Pro, an SLR design with an LCD viewfinder, a novice camera named (rather politically incorrectly) the Lady, the Super C. Bio with power zoom and built-in flash, and the underwater Frog.

Our main picture shows the HOMIC (Horizontal Memorychip Integral storobo Camera). This was a Gerry Anderson-esque concept for a still video camera recording to solid-state memory. Unusually, the lens and viewfinder were on the same axis, while the flash fired through the objective lens.

The HOMIC was exhibited at the 1984 Photokina, but was never marketed.

The Kodak EasyShare V570 dual lens digital camera, which
offers an ultra wide-angle and a zoom on the same face,
so to speak, is “the most stunningly original camera design
on the market.”
